Dr. Brooke Hansen is the Director of the Sustainable Tourism M.A. Program at the University of South Florida in Tampa. The program focuses on training students for careers in sustainable tourism, ecotourism, agritourism, consulting, and sustainable tourism certifications. Dr. Hansen is a member of B Tourism, Tampa Bay Women in Tourism, the Florida Agritourism Association and is an Academic Affiliate of the Center for Responsible Tourism (CREST) headquartered in Washington, D.C. She has been a featured speaker at numerous conferences and events, including the 2019 World of Taste and Travel Exhibition where she promoted the sustainable tourism paradigm and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Her current research projects include assessing the impact of climate change on cultural heritage destinations in Florida, expanding agritourism in Florida, and using virtual reality technologies to educate about sustainability and tourism at various sites, including Egmont Key in Tampa Bay where Seminole people were held in internment camps in the 1850s. Dr. Hansen was appointed in 2020 to serve on the NFL Super Bowl LV Sustainability Subcommittee and in 2021 to be a member of the Scientific Committee for the International Conference on Sustainable Development (Sept. 2021) where she convened a session on Resetting Tourism after COVID-19.
