2019 World Travel Market Begins

What is all the rage about food tours? Find out for yourself!
This 3-hour walking food tour will take you through the London Borough Market and South Bank areas to visit some of the most iconic, not-to-miss spots. You'll sample oysters from the UK's top oystermen; pastries from a respected local bakery; handmade pork pies from a famous local butcher; cheeses from a quintessential local cheesemonger; chocolates from a well-known cacao importer; and of course, wash it all down with a pint of real ale in a British pub.
Dietary preferences can be accommodated. One single departure: Saturday, November 2, 14:00 (2 PM) - 17:00 (5 PM). Network with other delegates during the tour.

Tina is a professional facilitator and business coach specialising in tourism. She has worked intensively ‘on- the-ground’ with tourism enterprises, particularly in the areas of sustainable destination development, industry networking and food tourism. Tina project-managed the award-winning Burren Food Trail 2013-2015, at that time setting a new standard for food tourism collaboration and experience development in Ireland. Since then, she has worked with national tourism bodies, state agencies, local authorities and several other food tourism networks in Ireland. Tina now focuses on working directly with tourism business leaders, helping them build prosperous and profitable businesses that last.

Originally a hotel management graduate, John gained international hospitality experience in hotels, fine dining, gastropubs, hotel schools, UN peacekeeping, and offshore catering. Subsequently, John had senior roles with the Irish National Tourism Development Authority over 17 years, culminating in responsibility for statutory tourist accommodation standards, food tourism development, and hospitality education. Concurrently, John gained an MA (Gastronomy), an MSc (Hospitality Management), and the WSET Diploma in Wine & Spirits. Now working autonomously, John helps stakeholders understand how critical the nexus of Food, Tourism, & Hospitality Education is to success, and contributes to publications and conferences regularly.
Aashi Vel is the co-founder and CEO of Traveling Spoon, a company that is changing the future of travel by creating meaningful travel experiences. Traveling Spoon connects travelers with private, authentic food experiences in people's homes around the world. The company has been featured in the New York Times and Forbes as the future of culinary tourism. Most importantly, the company has meaningful impact, not only on travelers but also on their hosts that are enabled to become micro-entrepreneurs, earning an income doing what they love. A former industrial designer and patent holder, Aashi received her MBA from UC Berkeley.

The STA leads and co-ordinates Scotland’s national tourism Strategy Tourism Scotland 2020 and co-lead with sister trade body Scotland Food and Drink of Scotland’s first Food Tourism Strategy. Marc chairs the National Food Tourism Leadership Board and the strategy steering group charged with developing the future tourism strategy Beyond 2020.

Justin Hawke is the owner & head brewer of Bristol’s Moor Beer Company. Originally from California, Justin discovered the delights of real ale when he visited England. Subsequently graduating from West Point, he lived in Germany where he developed a keen interest in unfined beer. He then returned to California, learning how to brew the flavour forward beers of the burgeoning microbreweries. Returning to England, he founded the brewery in 2007. Since then it has expanded multiple times, been awarded Brewer of the Year in 2017 by the British Guild of Beer Writers, and started the unfined beer movement.

Maria Athanasopoulou first got involved with tourism in Greece when she started writing articles in 2008, as an amateur but soon afterwards in 2009, she becomes chief editor of the online, non-profitable e-magazine Taksidi 2 Greece. At the same time, she established the company Respond on Demand aiming to the promotion of all types of Greek tourism to travel agents abroad. She is a member of the International Association of tourism writers and photographers and participates with often articles to online magazines and electronic travel platforms. Gastronomy is the main focus of Top Tourism nonprofit company, where Maria is a co-owner. She has addressed speeches to several events concerning the important role of gastronomy to tourism development.

Since 2000, Udi has been creating food tourism adventures. Udi built the Bedouin style hospitality camp at the Massada national park, established the Jerusalem institute, writes and published articles about the uniqueness of Israel and foodies destination. Udi works with the Culinary Institute of Jerusalem and is the national coordinator of the Slow Food Chef Alliance in Israel. He is also former chairman of the Israeli Association of Culinary Culture, and is a certified ambassador in Israel for the World Food Travel Association.

Mr. Joshi has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board (National Tourism Organization of Nepal) since December 2016. During his nearly 20 years of work experience in destination management, tourism promotion and public private partnership, he has worked with all levels of tourism professionals of Nepal and also has developed a good network of top international partners, including with the post-2015 earthquake recovery. An avid reader and writer, Mr. Joshi has written on tourism for national newspapers, contributed to the book “Readings in Rural Tourism”, and has presented original papers on tourism at seminars and workshops in Nepal and abroad. Mr. Joshi holds a Master’s degree in Social Science and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. He is known for his quick wit, good humour, dedication in tourism and genuine nature among his colleagues and working partners.
