This has been one of the hardest years on record for everyone and many businesses. It has been especially difficult for the travel and hospitality sectors. We have had to change what we do, and sometimes even change the core of our business models. We call this a “pivot”.

Understanding that many businesses and destinations would undergo a pivot this year, the World Food Travel Association wanted to recognize those who have not done just that, but which have done an exemplary job doing so. This year’s awards recognize not only excellence and innovation, but community impact and strategy as well.

Today the World Food Travel Association is pleased to announce the winners of our 2020 FoodTrekking Awards:

First Place – PEI Fall Flavours Festival (PEI, Canada)
Runner Up – Destination Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada)

First Place – Antica Australis (NSW, Australia)
Runner Up – Milwaukee Food Tours (Wisconsin, USA)

Please join us in congratulating these businesses and destinations for the excellence and innovation they have shown during these challenging times.

Case studies featuring these winners will be uploaded to the Association’s website shortly.

About the FoodTrekking Awards

Founded in 2016, our Awards program was our industry’s first and is today, our industry’s largest, program that recognizes excellence and innovation in food and beverage tourism. We have awarded over 50 winners since 2016. All entries are fairly judged by a confidential panel of international industry experts. Judges review each entry based on the criteria provided for that category. Their votes are compiled to create a shortlist of winner candidates. The judges then deliberate the final winners. First-place and runner-up winners are selected in each category.

Born in Las Raíces, San Juan del Cesar, Colombia, Mabel Esther Vega Montaño honors with her life the name of the place where she was born. A rural teacher and guardian of traditions, she combines formal education with the transmission of ancestral knowledge about respectful cultivation and harvesting of the land. Through fique weaving, she connects communities and promotes rural tourism intertwined with local gastronomy, where the wooden pestle, the totumo achiotero, and the wood-fired stove accompany the preparation of traditional dishes that celebrate the living memory and deep roots of the territory to which she has devoted her life. Learn more about our new Taste of Place Movement and how you can support it and the work done by Mabel and others like her.
